The Note Quote: Week of March 15th

This is the Note Quote for the Week of March 15th! The quote for this week is by Hypatia, which may or may not be a familiar name. Hypatia was a well-known philosopher, astronomer, mathematician, and teacher at the Neoplatonic school. She lived in Alexandria, Egypt- at that time, the hub of education and part of the Eastern Roman Empire. She was very intelligent and smart, even to the point that the Roman governor Orestes asked for her advice.

The intelligence of Hypatia is clearly shown in this quote. The quotation means that things should be taught realistically and the way they are. To teach people fantasies and superstitions as reality confuses and distorts judgment, especially in children[who are more likely to accept things the way they are told]. Only when they go through times of distress and sorrow do they realize what they were told was a lie.[That can really mess with someone's psyche.]

Hypatia also states that "many men will fight for a superstition quite as quickly as for a living truth", which means that people are often fighting for things that are not proven or real, rather than something that is truth. That is because truth does have perspective and evidence, which can be debatable or questioned.

That is about it for this week's quote! I hope this was enjoyable! If you want more quotes like these, then check out the previous quotes. If you have any questions or suggestions, comment on this post or read the FAQ page. See you next week!
